Top 5 Halloween Tracks To Get Your Spook on!
Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell on You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1AE_bCoPSI
Screamin’ Jay. That’s his name and that’s pretty well how he delivers this song about, well, putting a spell on someone. Check this really early live performance for some proper wild voodoo stage theatrics. It’s amazing TV and he has a genuinely electrifying voice and stage presence.
ACDC - Highway to Hell

It was a toss up between this and ‘Hells Bells’, but I had to choose this one because Bon Scott. There is so much menace in that man’s voice. It always sounds like he’s about to do something terribly, terribly naughty.
Roky Erickson - Night Of The Vampire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqRdqw0VDXw
This slow grind of this song sounds so perfect mostly because Roky Erickson was pretty well clinically dead when he performed it. He delivers every word of this song like a banshee. It’s brilliant.
The Specials - Ghost Town
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ2oXzrnti4
It’s not technically about ghosts, or horror, or anything even remotely halloween related. It is however about a terrifying scenario in the near future where our cities collapse in desperation under the weight of capitalist greed and censorship and leave everyone gasping for a drink. Noise restrictions on pubs in inner Melbourne anyone?
Skyhooks - Horror Movie
https://youtu.be/PjEQq_6yWKQ
You have to include this song really, it’s way much too fun to leave off the list. The film clip from countdown (older Australian live music performance show) is some pretty amazing stuff too. Sure, It’s a bit daggy, but not as daggy as the one I left out…
Honourable Mention: Bobby "Boris" Pickett - Monster Mash.
Madame Jubly demanded it be included, and she’s the boss so here it is. You can look it up yourself. I don’t want to sully my youtube feed by typing it into the search field.
Cheers
Jeremy (Chief packing minion and trumpet player extraordinaire)
